What's the Buzz about Local Honey?

Growing up in Cincinnati, I've always experienced severe allergies (also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis). You know, since Cincinnati sits in the the valley with a hanky panky.

One year, I experienced a really bad spring, where zyrtec, claritin, or benadryl didn't bring me any relief.

I was at work (at the time, Findlay St. Boys and Girls Club) when my coworker recommended that I try local honey. He said, " take a tablespoon a day before leaving the house." I did some research and obliged.

The idea behind local honey is that the local bees produce honey from the local trees and flowers pollen, we ingest the local honey, and our bodies begin to gradually build defenses that lessen the symptoms of reacting to the pollen.

Pollen is everywhere! Growing in your back yard, you can literally see it flying through the air (it travels for miles!), and sitting on your car in the morning.

After researching, I found that there has been little research done. But! I did find a study that proves this theory and a study where there was no significant difference. All in all, no conclusion can be drawn but for you to Try For Yourself! You may still be asking, "Well, did it work for you?" And my answer is YES! Local honey is now a part of my healthy lifestyle. Whether it be to sweeten my tea, coffee, smoothie, drizzle on my waffle or biscuit, or to glaze on top of my chicken.
